Position Purpose:The Assistant Manager provides clinical and administrative leadership with responsibility for day-to-day operations.
Ensures enhancement of the quality of patient specific to the patient population.
Job Description Details:
1 50%: Patient Care and Assessment, Plan of Care and Discharge Planning - clarifies and
implements orders from physician, fellow, advanced practice nurse and/or resident
by administering medications and performing treatments and testing as prescribed
by the physician and documents accordingly (Magnet Force #12). Recognizes
symptoms and establishes priorities consistent with patient condition (Magnet
Force #9). Documents ongoing assessments of patient's physical and emotional
status in order to address patient needs appropriately (Magnet Force #'s 5,6).
Demonstrates mastery of required unit-based competencies and orientation goals.
Obtains information from patient and/or to develop an appropriate patient
educational plan. Formulates, implements, and continually revises patient plan of
care based on ongoing assessment of the patient, information acquired from
patient's database and resources within the medical center (Magnet Force #'s 2,6).
Collaborates with other members of the health care team to promote effective
patient care (Magnet Force #13). Reviews and evauates discharge plans with the
multidisciplinary teams, the patient and family to promote timely and appropriate
discharge (Magnet Force #'s 5,10,11,13).

Human Resource Management- Provides for the selection, orientation, training,
evaluation and disciplinary action to ensure qualified staff to meet patient care
needs. Completes monthly staffing schedule in alignment with scheduling
guidelines. Interviews and select staff in collaborarion with Manager, Human
Resources, clinical staff and physicians as appropriate.

Customer Service / Communication - Ensure that service expectation of internal
and external cumstomers and colleagues are met or exceeded. Implements
Service Excellence Action Plans and achieves goals. Communicate customer
service expectations to staff. Develop and implement strategies to enhance
customer satisfaction. Maintain effective work relationships with colleagues.
Communicates in a competent and effective manner to meet patient and/or family
needs and regulatory requirements. Maintains strict confidentiality of patient,
employee and departmnet information to ensure patient rights (Magnet Force #'s

Commitment to Qiality Outcomes and Improvement - Ensures staff knowledge and
participation in quality improvement activities. Ensures that policies and
procedures reflect current regulatory and professional standards. Exemplifies
improvement in the quality of patient care through and interdisciplinary unit based
mechanism, which monitors the effectiveness, appropriateness and outcomes of
patient care. Develop/ participate in quality initiatives through identification of
opportunities for improvement. Develop/implement universal indicators for quality
measurement and clinic based specific indicators. Develop and introduce
innovations and imporvements in methodology and technology. Monitor and
address environmental and physical conditions of service areas to maintain a safe
and clean environmnet for patients, families and staff

growth and job performance by seeking opportunities to enhance job skills and
knowledge (Magnet Force #4,14). Set specific goals to meet these needs,
collaborate with manager and service line tam members to meet those needs.

orientation of staff. Coordinates comprehensive orientation of new staff members.
