The Banker I will receive and pay out money and keep records of money and negotiable instruments involved in financial transactions while providing superior banking services to customers in a professional manner. Additionally, they will be responsible for providing the customer and potential customer with a clear understanding of the technical aspects and benefits of products and services offered by performing the following duties:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

SALES:
  • Recognize selling opportunities and effectively refer customers to other bank associates for bank products and services.
  • Promotes other financial institution services as consumer and mortgage loans, IRA's, certificates of deposit, traveler's checks, and money orders.

    CUSTOMER SERVICE:
  • Ability to establish rapport with customer through techniques such as customer identification by name, customer greeting, smile, introduction and verbal recognition upon departure (thank you).
  • Acknowledges customer complaints and follows up on complaints and insures customer
    satisfaction.
  • Maintains comprehensive, prompt and efficient customer service transactions.
  • Answers customer questions and investigates and corrects errors.
  • Orders automated teller machine cards and places check orders for customers.
  • Assists customers with account queries.
  • Performs a variety of customer service transactions such as account holds, stop-payment orders, direct deposits and check information
  • Provides service and requested maintenance to customer accounts.

    BANK OPERATIONS:
  • Receives checks and cash for deposit, verifies amount and examines checks for endorsement and customer balances.
  • Cashes checks and processes withdrawals; pays out money after verification of signatures and customer balances.
  • Counts, checks, and packages coins and currency.
  • Enters customers’ transactions into computer to record transactions, and issues computer generated receipts.
  • Places holds on accounts for uncollected funds.
  • Balances cash drawer at the end of shift and compares totaled amounts with computer generated proof sheet; reports any discrepancies to the supervisor as necessary.
  • Monitors cash supply and sells/buys as needed to stay within audit standards.
  • Check's night depository bags and records proper information on the financial institutions forms.
  • Assists in the bank by mail process.
  • Reports malfunctions of teller terminals and other equipment used at the teller station.
  • Issues traveler's checks, money orders, and U.S. Savings Bonds. (If applicable)
  • Ensures that the teller station is properly stocked with forms, supplies and other items.
  • Receives mortgage, consumer loan, and other payments and ensures the payments match the balance due; processes payments into computer.
  • Assists with operational duties such as night drops, charge backs, reporting of money order and cashier's checks sales, morning balancing and vault balancing.
  • Maintains audit and security standards.
  • Adheres to Bank Operating Policies and Procedures.

  • Enjoys and wants to deal with people/may even need to be with people
  • Have inquisitive minds that enable them to keep abreast of the competition, sound knowledge of business terms and relevant events letting them discuss a broad range of topics
  • Excellent command of vocabulary which enables them to establish successful relationships with customers
  • Willingness to take risks, work on incentive/commission
  • Able to shift conversations from social to business

    EDUCATION AND EXEPERIENCE:
  • High School graduate or equivalent minimum. Bachelor of Business Administration or Associate's Degree preferred.
  • Basic math proficiency and aptitude.
  • Must have experience with handling cash.
  • Post high school education and/or two years work experience preferred.
  • One year of direct customer service experience desired.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    Physical Qualifications (Communication, Lifting, etc.)*
  • Use verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with customers and other employees
  • Effectively use a telephone
  • Watch and understand non-verbal communication
  • Able to lift boxes of coin and money drawers weighing up to 20 lbs.
  • Operate and read computer terminal screen

    Environmental Qualifications (Mobility)*
  • Retrieve and replace safe deposit boxes weighing up to 20 lbs; height up to 6 feet
    Reach over counter to help customers
  • Reach upper cabinets for supplies
  • Access to facility
  • Move through retail store to visit with customers

    Mental Qualifications (Reading, Writing, Math, Computer, etc.)*
  • Read at a level sufficient to understand memorandums, instructions, forms, applications, financial statements, and credit reports
  • Write in a clear, concise and legible manner in order to compose memorandums and complete various bank documents and forms
  • Add, subtract, multiply and divide in order to help customers with their transactions, balance teller drawer, and figure the ratios necessary for evaluating loan applications
  • Learn and understand computer system in order to run teller transactions, look up customer accounts, and troubleshoot the equipment when problems occur
  • Handle teller transactions; use teller machine and computer system
